<h2>Anchor new habits to old ones</h2>
<p>The most reliable habit formula isn&#x27;t a reminder or an app — it&#x27;s stacking: &#x27;After I [existing habit], I will [new two-minute habit].&#x27; After I pour my coffee, I will stretch for two minutes. After I brush my teeth, I will lay out tomorrow&#x27;s clothes.</p>
<p>Existing habits are automatic; you&#x27;re just piggybacking on wiring that already exists. Choose anchors that happen daily at a predictable time, and keep the new action genuinely small for the first two weeks.</p>
<p>One habit at a time is the other rule people skip. Stacking three new habits at once means none of them get automatic before your enthusiasm runs out — which it will, because that&#x27;s normal, not weakness.</p>
<h3>Make the streak visible, then protect it</h3>
<p>A paper calendar with an X for each day you did the thing works better than most apps, because it&#x27;s physically in your way. The goal is not a perfect streak; it&#x27;s never missing twice in a row.</p>
<p>Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new (worse) habit.</p>
